SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A baby has been surrendered at a South Carolina hospital, officials confirmed on Friday.

The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) said the child, a 5-pound, 15-ounce baby boy, who is about 18.31 inches long, was surrendered on Wednesday at the time of birth at the Spartanburg Regional Health System.

The Spartanburg County DSS took custody of the child under the Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act. The child has since undergone a medical evaluation and has been placed with a licensed foster home, officials said.
