Chippewas of Nawash Chief Darlene Johnston is resigning just months into a two-year term, citing medical reasons.
“Today, I resigned from my position as your chief, effective immediately, due to medical reasons. In my absence, several councillors have taken turns serving as acting chief. I thank them for demonstrating their commitment to our community by doing so,” Johnston said in a statement released Monday. “It has been my honour to have served you, even for such a short period of time. I will continue to serve our community in my personal capacity as soon as I am able to do so.”
