SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) said an infant was surrendered in the Upstate.

Officials said a baby boy was born at Spartanburg Regional Health System on Wednesday and weighed five pounds, 15 ounces and was 18.31 inches long.

The baby was surrendered at the hospital under Daniel’s Law, the state’s Safe Haven for Abandoned Babies Act, the same day.

This is the second, unrelated safe surrender of an infant at this hospital in the last month.

DSS said a Permanency Planning Hearing and Termination of Parental Rights Hearing will be held on December 18 at 10 a.m. at the Spartanburg County Family Court. Anyone who believes they have parental rights to this child is required to attend the hearing.
