NEW YORK (WABC) -- As the holiday shopping season gets underway, New Yorkers are being encouraged to support local businesses on Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday celebrates the innovation, creativity and determination of local entrepreneurs. As part of the campaign, shoppers are asked to buy from smaller businesses rather than ones owned by large corporations.
New York Gov. Hochul is among those asking state residents to participate in the campaign. The governor says supporting local businesses help keep New York's main streets thriving.
"Every time we choose a local shop, restaurant, or service provider, we're investing in our neighbors and our neighborhoods," Hochul said.
