The Red Wings earned one point in Boston Saturday, but would have preferred two against a decimated Bruins lineup.
Boston defeated the Wings 3-2 in a shootout, with the Bruins prevailing 1-0 in the extra session. Boston's Casey Mittelstadt was the lone Bruin to score, while goaltender Jeremy Swayman stopped the Wings' Lucas Raymond, Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat.
The Wings (13-11-2) haven't won in their last four games (0-3-1) and have only one victory in their last six games (1-4-1).
Boston (15-12-0) moved two points ahead of the Wings (30-28) in the Atlantic Division standings.
"Tough game to play for both teams," Red Wings coach Todd McLellan told reporters afterward. "A lot of tight checking, not a lot of loose ice. Heavy game, and at times frustrating for both teams.
