EAST LANSING, Mich. — ESPN's Pete Thamel has reported that Michigan State University plans to fire the football program's head coach, Jonathan Smith.
Smith and the Spartans went 1-8 in the Big Ten this season.
Smith went 9-15 in his two seasons as MSU's head coach. The Spartans finished their regular season with a win over Maryland on Saturday night.
If fired, the school will owe Smith $33 million in a buyout.
