GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A man was arrested after police say he tried to break into a home and vehicle in Gainesville, causing about $200 in damage.

Witnesses say Seth Smart, 32, tried to break into an unoccupied vehicle in the driveway of a home on 20 SE 9th St. just after midnight Saturday.

The residents, both inside their home at the time of the incident, reported that Smart then tried to enter their front door by turning the doorknob. They told police they heard him say, “I’m going to kill your dogs.”

Officers say they arrived on scene to find wooden pieces of the fence scattered on the ground. They arrested Smart after locating him near the side of the house.
