OXFORD, Miss. (WAFB) - Lane Kiffin has accepted LSU’s offer to become the Tigers’ next head football coach, ending weeks of speculation and closing one of the most high-profile coaching searches in the country.
Kiffin released a statement Sunday afternoon after meeting with his team, confirming his decision, saying he made “the difficult decision to accept the head coaching position at LSU” after “a lot of prayer and time spent with family.”
He said he asked Ole Miss leadership for permission to coach the Rebels through the College Football Playoff but was denied by athletics director Keith Carter.
“Unfortunately, that means Friday’s Egg Bowl was my last game coaching the Rebels,” Kiffin wrote, adding that he will “forever cherish the incredible six years” at Ole Miss.
