A Raceland man who was killed in a hunting accident was fatally wounded in one of three unrelated Lafourche Parish shootings that occurred over the course of about 14 hours this weekend, Sheriff Craig Webre said Sunday afternoon.

Garret Verdun, 45, was shot in the head and killed while hunting with a friend near Bayou Folse Road on Saturday afternoon, Webre said. The rifle discharged while the two hunters were handling it, according to Webre.

The shooting was reported to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office at around 4 p.m., and Webre said the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is assisting with the investigation.

About five hours later, another shooting was reported in the 100 block of Headland Drive in Thibodaux, according to the Sheriff's Office.
