Lane Kiffin agreed Sunday to become LSU's next football coach, and the former Ole Miss coach was interviewed by ESPN's Marty Smith before making the trip to Baton Rouge .
The interview with Smith was completed just before Kiffin's plane left for Baton Rouge on Sunday afternoon. Reports on Saturday night indicated that Kiffin was likely headed to LSU despite the potential of a College Football Playoff run with Ole Miss.
Kiffin said during the interview that he wanted stay at Ole Miss for the duration of the Rebels' playoff run but was denied by Rebels athletic director Keith Carter.
"This was a very challenging and difficult day," Kiffin said to start the interview with Smith. "We went through a lot last night with Keith Carter trying to figure out a way to make this playoff run work.
