SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane police are investigating an incident in which a person allegedly shot and killed a dog after witnesses reported the animal was being aggressive toward the shooter’s dog.

According to a Spokane police officer at the scene, the incident happened around 2 p.m. Sunday near West Bismark Avenue. Officers were called after reports that a dog had been shot near a school.

Police said that the shooter was walking his dog when the other dog reportedly became aggressive. Witnesses told officers the man then shot the dog, which later died from its injuries.

Police said that the shooter left the scene, and they are now looking for him to gather more information and his account of what happened.

SPD is asking nearby residents who witnessed the incident or have camera footage
