ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - An Amtrak train that left St. Louis for Chicago around 8 a.m. Sunday was disabled on the way and could not complete the trip, according to an Amtrak spokesperson.
Amtrak says the cause of the issue is still under investigation, though passengers claim a wheel slipped off the tracks.
No injuries were reported.
Passengers on board were transferred to charter buses and taken the rest of the way to their destination. It is unclear exactly where the train was disabled as of the publication of this article.
Details about how the incident may affect trains heading on the same route from the Gateway Transportation Center downtown tonight and tomorrow are still unclear.
The incident comes on one of the busiest holiday travel days of the year.
