WASHBURN, Wis. (Northern News Now) - Robin Greenfield, an Ashland native and sustainability advocate, is two months into his challenge of foraging all of his food for a year.
Greenfield has been foraging across the Northland since spring, gathering everything from wild rice and various mushrooms to herbs, fresh fruits and vegetables, and even salt.
But, since October, he’s taken his efforts to a new level: surviving an entire year solely on the food he forages.
“No grocery stores, no restaurants, not even gardens,” said Greenfield. “This is a practice of nature is my garden, nature is my pantry, and nature is my pharmacy.”
Greenfield lived a typical American life until 2011, when he realized the damage his daily actions were causing the earth, so he decided to make a change.
