DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) -Monday morning, the Great Lakes Aquarium announced its resident bald eagle, Bogey, has died.
Aquarium leaders say Bogey’s health was declining, and he was showing signs of slowing and aging; however, in June, X-rays showed significant arthritis.
Recently, Bogey was struggling with eating and standing, and the decision was made to humanely euthanize him to provide relief from his suffering.
The aquarium shared that they are waiting on test results to determine if other health factors played a part in his declining health.
Bogey, who was 26 years old, arrived at the Great Lakes Aquarium in 2001.
He came here from Alaska after falling out of his nest as a chick, which resulted in nerve damage that left him unable to survive in the wild.
