DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Spirit Mountain is officially open, signaling the arrival of the winter sports season in Duluth.

Spirit Mountain welcomed skiers and snowboarders alike, as many strapped on their gear and hit the slopes Sunday for opening day.

The cold and snow didn’t stop anyone, from kids to those young at heart, from enjoying the winter activities.

Currently, not all runs are open, including Nordic skiing and tubing.

But skiers say that doesn’t stop the excitement of the opening weekend.

“Well, it seems like if you live in Duluth, it’s just almost a shame not to ski,” said skier Kathy Ekberg. “Because it seems like it’s just made for skiing.”
