Widespread disruption is expected in south Wales today with torrential rain and strong winds forecast. A rare amber Met Office warning came into force for much of south Wales at midnight on Sunday and is in place until 11pm.

After heavy rain overnight, there were already two flood warnings and 40 flood alerts in place across Wales as of 6am on Monday. The flood warnings were in Peterston Super Ely and Llanddowror, Carms.

Driving conditions were expected to be treacherous and there were delays on the M4 around Cardiff and Newport early on Monday with one lane closed between junctions 32 and 33.
