MONTICELLO – With every day in Washington bringing new budget cuts or added spending, which impacts state finances, county governments are facing a dilemma as to how to react.
Sullivan County Manager Josh Potosek said counties must keep a close watch on their budgets.
“We still don’t know what county governments across New York State, not just Sullivan, don’t know what the impacts of a lot of the big cost shifts in the last federal budget were to New York State, not necessarily counties,” he said. “So obviously the state is going to be having some of their own budget problems if they are shifting any kind of cost to county government, that is going to have a direct impact on either property taxes or services that we are able to perform.
