MANISTEE, MI – An ornate Victorian church in Northern Michigan will open for rare public tours for just four hours this weekend.

One of Manistee’s most beautiful landmarks, Guardian Angels Church will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, during the Victorian Sleighbell Parade and Old Christmas Weekend holiday festival.

The 135-year-old Romanesque Revival-style church has a 170-foot-tall steeple topped with a 12-foot cross. Its exterior and interior are marked by arches. The building is home to a 20,000-pound, 15-bell chime, a pipe organ with more than 1,600 pipes and many original furnishings.

Dedicated in 1890 and recognized as a historic place in 2020, the church became a limited-use facility in 2016. It remains part of the Divine Mercy Parish of the Catholic Church
