HMRC is set to begin charging NEW rates for EVs, petrol and diesel motorists - starting today. From today, Monday, December 1, 2025, HMRCs will begin charging certain drivers using new advisory fuel rates (AFRs).

The rates only apply to employees using a company car and are used to reimburse employees for business travel in their company cars - or when firms need employees to repay the cost of fuel used for private travel.

HMRC stipulates: "If the mileage rate you pay is no higher than the advisory fuel rates for the engine size and fuel type of the company car, there will be no taxable profit and no Class 1A National Insurance to pay.
