The Ontario government announced Monday it is taking control of the Near North District School Board.

This comes after a ministry review confirmed “deep-rooted dysfunction and mismanagement that have eroded public confidence.”

Near North District School Board chairman Jay Aspin told The Nugget he was informed this morning.

“I was informed by letter earlier this morning that the minister has made his decision to vest control and charge over the administration of the affairs of the board himself, the minister of education, effective today,” he said.

“This means the trustees are out, the minister and his team are in control.”
