WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - One person was sent to the hospital after a fire at an apartment on Heywood Avenue in West Springfield early Monday morning.

Crews said they encountered both fire and smoke when they arrived to the scene just before 4:30 a.m. Monday.

The extent of the victim’s injuries is unknown at this time and the fire’s cause remains under investigation.
