EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Tom Izzo says he “hates what’s happened to Jonathan Smith.”
The Michigan State basketball coach addressed the school’s firing of Smith after just two years in charge of the football program.
Izzo spoke about the decision at the end of his press conference Monday previewing the No. 11 Spartans’ Big Ten opener against Iowa on Tuesday.
“I hate what’s happened because things did not go as well as I would like them. But more importantly, things did not go as well as he would like it,” Izzo said.
Izzo frequently attended MSU football practices while Smith was coach and said Monday he was a good football mind and “I don’t think anyone ever questioned his character, his integrity.”
Acknowledging that things for the football team had not been in a great spot since
