CLEVELAND, Ohio – The busiest travel day of the year was also one of the nastiest, as winter storms delayed or canceled thousands of flights in Cleveland and across the country Sunday.
But today promises to be calmer, both in terms of weather and travel flow.
FlightAware.com , which tracks flight disruptions worldwide, reports 218 cancellations and 1,920 delays across the United States today. That’s a significant improvement from Sunday’s 1,028 cancellations and 12,889 delays, when airports in several major metropolitan areas were hit by stormy weather.
At Chicago O’Hare International Airport – a hub for both United and American airlines – two-thirds of all flights were delayed Sunday, along with 246 cancellations. The airport saw more than 8.5 inches of snow over the weekend.
