MERIDEN, Conn. (WFSB) - Michael Rohde, who served five years as Meriden’s mayor and 25 years on the City Council, died Sunday at age 80.

Rohde had recently resigned from City Council, citing serious physical health issues.

As creator and chairman of the Meriden Flood Control Implementation Agency, Rohde helped guide planning for the award-winning Meriden Green, a 14-acre flood control area in the center of the city that doubles as a park, a spokesperson for the City of Meriden said.

“His passion for our residents and business community has helped shape Meriden into what it is today,” said current Mayor Kevin Scarpati.

Rohde served on City Council from 1989-2008 and 2019-2025, and was mayor from 2008-2013. He was inducted into the Meriden Hall of Fame in October.
