BARBOUR COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A man from Barbour County was charged with attempted malicious assault on a police officer, according to West Virginia State Police.

WVSP said at approximately 4 p.m. on November 30, troopers of the Philippi Detachment responded to a residence in the Moatsville area of Barbour County to assist the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department with the execution of an arrest warrant.

The warrant was for Brian Koval, 49, who had multiple narcotics charges.

After seeing law enforcement approaching, Koval attempted to barricade himself inside the residence to avoid arrest, according to WVSP.

Following a brief standoff, troopers were able to enter the residence and Koval was taken into custody.
