CHARLESTON — Citadel college President Glenn Walters announced his retirement from the school after eight years in charge, saying he will stay on until the end of the 2025-26 academic year in June.
“This is the right decision, and it comes at the right time,” Walters in a Dec. 1 message to The Citadel community. “We could not be more proud of the transformation this campus has experienced.”
A 14-member search committee for his successor will begin work on vetting candidates, the school said.
Walters, a 1979 Citadel alum, arrived as the college’s 20th president in 2018 after serving as the 34th assistant commandant of the Marine Corps. He succeeded then-Citadel President Lt. Gen. John Rosa.
