SARASOTA, Fla. — The holiday countdown is on — and so is the countdown for collecting toys.

One local nonprofit, Mothers Helping Mothers, says it’s short on toys this year and is facing an increased demand for help.

The group is adding 50 additional families to its annual “Toy Day” event and hopes there will be enough toys to go around.

On days like this, Cassandra Smith remembers how much change can happen in a short amount of time.

She and her family lived half a mile away from David Cohen Park.

“Oh, they loved it. They loved the structure of it and how big it is," Smith sai
