TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - On Thursday, Senate Bill 8 will go into effect across Texas, known as the Texas Women’s Privacy Act or a “bathroom bill” which will restrict who can use certain restrooms and other private spaces in buildings owned by certain public agencies.
The new law will create sex-based restrictions on restrooms, locker rooms, changing rooms, and shower rooms in buildings owned and operated by both political subdivisions and state agencies. Those include places like county and city buildings, agency buildings, public schools, open-enrollment charter schools, and public universities.
The restrictions prevent people to use a multi-person facility that does not match the persons assigned sex at birth. The law does allow for single-person facilities, like a family bathroom, that
