KENT COUNTY, MI – Police are investigating a newborn baby’s death after the child’s mother was charged with murder for allegedly suffocating her 2-year-old daughter to death.

It’s been more than four years since 2-month-old Leonard Keith Whitehead died. His manner of death was ruled natural, according to the boy’s death certificate.

Investigators are now examining his case in the days after his mother’s arrest.

Irene Aiyana Whitehead , 27, was arraigned this week on charges of felony murder and first-degree child abuse for the death of 2-year-old Ryleigh Whitehead.

Whitehead told police she and Ryleigh were alone in the home when the girl started to experience a breathing problem.
