Goshen wrestler Evan Weeden remembers panicking and being scared, and for good reason.

He didn’t know it at the time, but Weeden sustained a detached retina during a late-round 145-pound match in the Section 9 tournament in February.

He couldn’t see out of one eye – everything went gray – Weeden lost his depth of perception, but he fought on.

That’s just Evan Weeden.

“It just speaks to Evan’s toughness,” said Goshen wrestling coach Jarrad Vrydaghs, who named an award after Weeden after his freshman year, dedicated to his tenaciousness – the Never Give Up Award. “He is as tough as you can get. Evan has the most determination and never gives up.”
