WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - One Watertown City Council vote stands between city hall and its $7.3 million upgrade. In the works for years, it likely won’t get the green light until next year.

A vote to bond for the project was struck down at Monday night’s city council meeting. The delay could push up the price.

“There will be some price increases, potentially. The cost of goods and potentially even some labor increases based on a few salary requirements. It’s hard to determine exactly what those are based on how the subcontractors work, but that’s one thing,” said Eric Wagenaar, city manager.

The project, demanded by the state, improves security and courtroom facilities. City leaders say if the state doesn’t like this latest delay, it could demand things start soon and withhold state
