WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) - A ferry service between Cape Vincent to Wolfe Island, Ontario, could be coming back.

Tuesday’s weather keeps you from seeing Wolfe Island from the Cape Vincent boat launch. You can’t get there from here right now since Horne’s Ferry shut down last year with no plans to open back up.

“It’s kind of like an identity to Cape Vincent. We’re known for the Wolfe Island ferry. It’s been used for generations and it’s such a unique experience,” said Cape Vincent Mayor Jerry Golden.

With the village taking ownership of the boat launch area, there are new plans to bring the ferry service back, and it involves Jefferson County.
