WATERLOO, Iowa — Voters in Waterloo are heading to the polls to decide their next mayor in a race that has come down to incumbent Mayor Quentin Hart and City Councilmember Dave Boesen.

The November election was a tight contest, with Hart falling just short of the 50 percent plus one vote needed for an outright win. As a result, the top two candidates are facing off again in this runoff election. On election night last month, Boesen received just over 40 percent of the vote.

A significant factor in this race is the 9.52 percent of votes that went to neither Hart nor Boesen in November. If voter turnout in Black Hawk County mirrors that of the previous election, this election could hinge on those voters.
