Tulane placed a league-high 13 players on the American All-Conference team on Tuesday, reflecting its status as the highest ranked Group of Five team in the College Football Playoff rankings.
Redshirt freshman kicker Patrick Durkin was named special teams player of the year after connecting on 22 of 24 field goals while also producing touchbacks on 63 of 71 kickoffs, more than justifying the staff’s decision to award him a scholarship in the offseason. He went four of five on field goals of 50 or more yards when no Tulane kicker had made one from that distance since Cairo Santos in 2013.
