ST PAUL, Minn. — President Donald Trump's administration said on Tuesday it plans to withhold Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding to Democratic-led states , including Minnesota, citing states’ refusal to turn over certain personal data about SNAP recipients, such as names, home addresses and immigration status.
When SNAP benefits were temporarily halted during the recent federal government shutdown, food shelves across the Twin Cities saw a surge in demand.
"More people than we'd ever served in a day before," said Keystone Community Services Director of Programs Julia McCarthy. "We saw a lot of folks who had never sought assistance from us or from any food shelves before, as well as increased visits from people who had already been coming here."
