BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Giving Tuesday is known as a global movement encouraging people to give back, but local nonprofits say those donations carry a unique weight in Baton Rouge.
The Capitol Area United Way was among the many organizations participating in this year’s campaign. The group supports services that address hunger, homelessness, and poverty throughout the region.
CEO George Bell said the need in Baton Rouge has become so great that the organization created its own metric to better understand who needs help. The measurement is known as ALICE. It’s an acronym that stands for “Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.” The metric focuses on working-class residents who still struggle to afford the basic costs of living in Louisiana.
