EATON COUNTY, Mich. (WILX) - Eaton County is warning residents of an email scam targeting people who have had recent interactions with the Planning and Zoning Department.

In the email, residents are being asked to wire transfer money.

The county says even if you haven’t had any recent interactions with the Planning and Zoning Department, there are safety tips you can follow to prevent yourself from being scammed.

The tips include:

Checking the email address. An email address from the county will end with ‘@eatoncounty.org’

Residents should hover over links before clicking them

Watch for threatening or urgent language

Never share personal or financial information by email
