BOSSIER CITY, La. — Interstate 220 west was closed Wednesday morning near Willis-Knighton Bossier following a major crash that caused a significant traffic backup for at least an hour and a half.

The accident happened on I-220 west near the Willis-Knighton Bossier Health Center exit. All lanes remained closed shortly after 7 a.m.

The closure is causing traffic to be stopped from the hospital's vicinity all the way to Louisiana Downs.

Ambulances were on the scene transporting victims, according to witnesses.

Motorists should expect a very long backup and are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid the congestion.
