SEATTLE — As the holiday rush intensifies, more shoppers are turning to delivery apps to save time. But a KING 5 consumer report reveals convenience may come with a hidden cost: prices that don't match what you would see inside the same store.
A side-by-side comparison at a Ballard Fred Meyer on Tuesday found shoppers could pay nearly 10% more for the same items through Instacart, before factoring in tips and delivery fees.
KING 5 tested five items, ordering them through Instacart while simultaneously checking in-store prices:
Coke Zero 12-pack: $11.99 on Instacart vs. $10.99 in store (a $1 markup).
Darigold whole milk: Same price both places
Holiday Oreos: $5.99 on the app vs. $5.29 in store (70 cents more)
Bounty paper towels 6-pack: $16.99 on Instacart vs. $14.99 in store (
