NEW ORLEANS — An early morning fire in the French Quarter Wednesday left six residents and their pets displaced, according to the New Orleans Fire Department.
The fire was reported around 7:33 a.m. at a home located in the 700 block of Burgundy Street. Firefighters arrived at 7:44 a.m. and saw smoke coming from the rear of the home.
NOFD said residents at the home tried to extinguish the flames with a "small garden hose," a release said. Firefighters found an active fire in the empty space between the first and second floors, prompting a second-alarm to evacuate residents and get the fire under control.
At least six people along with two dogs are displaced due to the fire. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
