The 32-year-old man, who has not been named, has been charged with trying to smuggle the diamond studded Fabergé pendant by eating it.
Cops in New Zealand have said the ingested loot - valued at £14,600 - has not yet been recovered. They were called to Partridge Jewellers in central Auckland on Friday afternoon with the man arrested in store minutes later.
