Loved ones are revealing new details about a Long Island man who was killed in a high-speed car crash into a vacant storefront.

Scott Letizia, 42, of Patchogue, died Tuesday evening, Dec. 2, at NYU Langone Hospital–Suffolk, one day after the early-morning crash, as Daily Voice reported.

Letizia was driving a Honda Accord when it blew through the intersection of North Ocean Avenue and Main Street around 5:40 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, and slammed into a commercial building, Suffolk County Police said.

No other vehicles were involved, and nobody else was injured. The commercial space was vacant at the time.

Photos shared by LI Fire Buff showed the Honda torn apart, with the roof removed and the front end crushed. Debris littered the sidewalk, and the storefront suffered extensive damage.

Letizia, who had recently married, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

His death has shaken the Angels of Long Island community, where he volunteered. The nonprofit’s founder, Debbie Loesch, shared a tribute on Facebook, calling him a “remarkable individual” and a “devoted” member of the team.

“We are all shocked and saddened by this tragic news,” she said.

Loesch said the crash stemmed from a medical emergency after Letizia left for work shortly before 5:30 a.m., adding that toxicology results showed no drugs or alcohol in his system, according to her statement.

A GoFundMe created to support his wife, Marissa, and their family described Letizia as “fun to be around, trustworthy and genuinely calming.”

The campaign, launched by family friend Bill Schwegler, had raised more than $7,000 as of Wednesday, Dec. 3. Those interested in supporting the family can donate via GoFundMe.
