FARGO — As temperatures drop, the dangers of frostbite are on the rise.

Sanford Ambulance says the best way to protect yourself in these frigid temperatures is to try to limit how much skin is exposed to the cold and limit time outside.

Early stages of frostbite can happen in just minutes and progress quickly in extreme cold and wind.

Even early in the winter, it's important to not underestimate the weather.

"You just never know when you're going to slip and fall or something, and now you're caught outside unaware. And so always be safe. Always take the high road and just say, I'm going to be extra safe and wear the proper attire," said Don Martin, operations manager for Sanford Ambulance.
