FARGO — A Fargo-Moorhead-based nonprofit is supporting mothers across the U.S. who will be spending Christmas in a neonatal intensive care unit.
About 25 volunteers with Dear NICU Mama made personalized cards Wednesday, Dec. 3, which will be sent to more than 4,200 mothers whose babies need specialized medical care after birth.
The cards include stickers and hand-written messages from other mothers who have had babies in the NICU.
Co-founder and Executive Director Ashley Ham says the cards let NICU moms know they are not alone.
"I think the beauty of these cards is it's a direct connection for a mom without having to leave baby's bedside," Ham said.
Dear NICU Mama has two major outreach events each year, one at Christmas and one for Mother’s Day.
