MILLERSBURG — The Callaway County Sheriff's Office engaged in a standoff Wednesday afternoon near Millersburg while attempting to enforce sex offender registration, a sheriff's office spokesperson said.

The incident happened in the area of County Road 350 and Samantha Road.

Crystal Kent, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, said the person of interest had a probation and parole warrant for failing to properly register as a sex offender.

The Sheriff's Office received information earlier Wednesday about the person's location and arrived on the scene at 2:23 p.m., Kent said.

"When we arrived on scene, he did open the door to talk to deputies but refused to come out," Kent said.
