COLUMBIA — Veterans Affairs departments across the country have helped house the largest number of homeless veterans in seven years, and the Truman Veterans' Hospital in Columbia was a part of reaching that milestone.
The Department of Veterans Affairs announced Tuesday that it permanently housed 51,936 homeless veterans nationwide during the 2025 fiscal year.
That total is 4,011 more veterans than the VA housed last year, according to a news release.
The release also stated 158 veterans were permanently housed by the Truman Veterans’ Hospital, up from 114 veterans in 2024.
The veterans hospital helps house homeless or near-homeless veterans through the HUD-VASH program, a partnership the VA and the Department of Urban Housing and Development. The VA provides case work services while t
