KEARNEY, Neb. (KSNB) - A fake image showing the Kearney Archway collapsed on Interstate 80 circulated on social media Tuesday, prompting calls to the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said Tuesday afternoon that dispatch received several calls about an online image claiming the monument had fallen. Officials confirmed the image is not real.

The Archway also responded on social media, saying it remains intact and open to visitors. The organization said it is required to conduct several inspections each year to verify the structure’s soundness and conformity with codes.

Cherry Hill, marketing and events coordinator for the Archway, said staff first learned about the fake image when someone called reporting a piece of the building was blocking the interstate.
