Kerala’s Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who had been under disciplinary action since August 25, was expelled from the primary membership of Congress on Thursday as sexual assault allegations mounted against him.

Incidentally, his expulsion comes exactly a year after he took oath as the newly elected Palakkad MLA on 4 December 2024, following a by-election to the constituency that year.

KPCC President Sunny Joseph MLA announced the expulsion after multiple cases were registered, and internal complaints surfaced against the former Youth Congress leader, who has been absconding since the police registered a case against him.
