Bengaluru: A 45-year-old software professional, Murali Govindaraju, died by suicide on Wednesday morning in his under-construction home in Nallurahalli — a property he had hoped would be the foundation for a better future. What began as building his “dream house” spiralled into an ordeal of alleged harassment, extortion and unbearable pressure.

Murali, who worked at a private firm in the ITPL area of Whitefield and lived with his family in Brookbong Layout, had bought a 40 × 60-sq ft plot in 2018 from a relative of his neighbours, Shashi Nambiar (64) and Usha Nambiar (57). Soon after his construction began, the neighbours began raising repeated objections — alleging deviations from approved building plans.
