National Cookie Day is here, and beloved cookie brands all around North Jersey are celebrating.
National Cookie Day has a long history, USA TODAY reports , starting back in 1976 when "Sesame Street" added the day to its calendar. At that time, Nov. 26 was designated as the unofficial holiday, according to the National Day Calendar , with Cookie Monster promoting the day in the 1980 book "The Sesame Street Dictionary."
In 1987, Matt Nader of the Blue Chip Cookie Company in San Francisco officially designated Dec. 4 as Cookie Day, a date that has stuck ever since.
Naturally, Cookie Monster continues to celebrate the holiday, writing in a post on Instagram Dec. 4, "Today me celebrate da greatest invention of all time, COOKIES! Happy National Cookie Day everybody! Me hope you celebrate
